A Pinoy in Will Smith's Hitch"Just came back from Honolulu where I had an interview with Will Smith for Columbia Pictures' Hitch, his first romantic-comedy starrer (with the devastatingly sexy Eva Mendes who co-starred with Antonio Banderas and Johnny Depp in 2003's Once Upon a Time in Mexico). It was my fourth interview with Smith. The first was in l999 in L.A. (for Wild, Wild West), the second in 2002 in Seoul (for Men in Black II) and the third was in 2003 in Miami (for Bad Boys II).
As usual before the interviews (print and TV), invited journalists from around the world were required (a "must") to preview the movie. Otherwise, no preview, no interview. They're that strict out there, believe me!
In the movie, Smith plays a "date doctor" (yes, a match-maker) who, for a fee, helps men woo the women of their dreams, one of them a nerdy type (played by TV comedian Kevin James) who is smitten with his glamorous celebrity boss (one-time supermodel Amber Valletta). Mendes plays a gossip columnist who follows Amber's every move, with a photographer in tow. "
